⚠️⚠️⚠️warning mental and body health⚠️⚠️⚠️ Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask your opinion on this: I have tokophobia ( big fear and anxiety of pregnancy and giving birth). It's been years and years, and unfortunately, I am never comfortable having sex even if I use contraceptive condoms combos. For this cause,I have developed vaginismus. I was wondering if I should talk to my gynaecologist about wanting to remove my ovaries..(as I have polycistic ovaries and suffer from bad periods)and I have never felt the need of being a mom( i am.now 27yo) ..do you know anyone that done that procedure before? Any help or tips would be great! Thank you ❤️

I think it depends on where you are but unfortunately not all doctors will agree to do the procedure on a woman still within peak childbirthing years. It's extremely sexist but they may say things like "what if you want to have kids in the future or change your mind." Fortunately after a few tries and searching my friend found a supportive doctor who agreed to do her sterilization (via removal of the fallopian tubes) at the age of 30. I know that's not exactly your situation as you have health issues that are also a strong reason to have your ovaries removed and hopefully you can find a doctor that supports that. Just a heads up that some may refuse based on the reason that you might still want to have children. Also, have you gotten mental health support for your tokophobia?

There is a gyno on TikTok who has a list of doctors who support autonomy for women’s reproductive health / are willing to perform sterilization or tubal ligation. It’s a pretty extensive list, if you’re in the US you might be able to use that as a starting point searching for a gyno if your doctor is unsupportive.

Thank you for your response! I am in the UK and usually, people here are very supportive and understanding, so hopefully I would find some support. Yeah I thought about the sterilization process instead but i would just want to be able to not get periods and also stop being on the pill for it. So I might ask and see what the best solution is. Also..nope I dont have any mental health support for tokophobia, i didn'treally think on getting any help because I always think I am over reacting or smth... @aurielle :(

If your tokophobia is severe enough that you are seriously considering getting a pretty major surgery with the aim of helping reduce it, that’s very clear and definitive proof that this is having a huge impact on your daily life and you are not over reacting. At all. In the meantime while you research/await the surgery I would encourage to you get professional mental help support.
