Hi, is it normal to have diarrhoea within the first pack of your pill? I’ve never been on any sort of contraceptive before and just started taking the pill, which I’ve now just finished my first pack a few days ago. My friend told me it’s normal within the first few weeks because it’s your body getting used to it or something like that? Is that true, is it normal? I’m just a bit worried. Thank you in advance

Plus I looked on my leaflet that it came with and it says If you have it before 4 hours of taking the pill I need to take another one I think and something about after 12 hours if you feel fine but I had it after 4 hours but under 12 hours I was feeling fine?

she’s kinda right & kinda not. for the first 6-9 months your body DOES need to adjust to the pill however diarrhoea isn’t one of the side effects so it’s likely from something else. and if you throw up within 3-4 hours of taking the pill you should take another one, not if you have diarrhoea. diarrhoea only affects the pill if you have 5-6+ trips/cups in 24 hours. i’ve never heard of the 12 hours thing though.

The diarrhoea has to be completely liquid too ^ it just being mushy doesn’t affect your pill.

Yes your body needs to adjust but diarrhea is not a symptom of birth control. I wouldnt worry unless you had multiple trips to the bathroom thats completely liquid and if you got sick before 3 hours of taking it.

Hi Nurse Marj here, diarrhoea is classed as hot water stools, anything else is just loose. Please drink more water and eat something salty and a little sweet to replenish your electrolytes. Believe it or not most ladies suffer with loose stools whenever their period comes on, it is quite normal and down to hormone levels.
