Since November I have been experiencing what I have been calling “regular breakthrough bleeding.” What I mean by this is every month, near the end of the second week of my active pills I start to bleed pretty heavily. It lasts at least a week. It is like a period but not on my break week. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do? I have gotten labs done twice and an ultrasound and nothing irregular has come up. However, it is very annoying and very odd. I just don’t understand how I can be getting something like a period while on birth control and not on my break week.

I should also mention that this has really taken a toll on how I feel about myself for some reason. Every time I start a new pack I hope I don’t experience the “breakthrough bleeding” and I always do. It is annoying and frustrating and I hate that my body is doing this!

If it’s been happening for months and months I would try a different birth control. Especially because it seems to take a toll on you.

@Yi_eune I recently switched and so far no change! But it is still very recent so maybe it will :)

@dftba it may take a couple months. If it doesn’t get any better it might be worth changing methods entirely

Mine does this to me too. I switched to a higher dosage and it only shortened the breakthrough bleed. I’ve decided to switch to an implant instead, since it’s been 8 months of a new pill. It’s up to you. :)
