Hey I am switching from a combined pill to a progestin only pill. It says if you are switching from another pill to start the pill as soon as you stop ur old pill. My break starts tomorrow I had an incident with a condom and don’t feel safe switching tomorrow as its possible semen has gotten into me. I wanted to wait a few days into my break to take it. Would it still work the same?

What does your new pill’s pamphlet say about switching from a combined pill?

Unless it states to use extra protection you can assume you’ll remain protected

You will need to skip your break week by starting your new pill to ensure immediate protection.

@yI_eune does it work like that even if it says protected in 24hrs after taking it?

You should take the new pill the next day after your last active pill of the old kind. As long as you took your old pills fine, then you will be protected when switching. The mini pill takes 48 hours to be protected. So you technically are protected to be on a break week, but taking the mini pill during break week makes you protected as well since you are protected on break week and taking the new pill. I think you are safe to start right away. No need to take the break week.

@GhostFaceLov you’ll be protected by the mini pill by the time your combined pill stops covering your break.
