it takes 48 hours of use (so 3 pills) until your protected and as soon as you miss a pill or do something/something happens that affects the pill (on desogestrel i think you mean?) you’re immediately no longer protected and have to take the 48 hours of use again - three pills. any sex before a missed pill is protected. you have 12 hours to take your pill on desogestrel anything after this is considered a missed pill. taking it not on time could increase side effects such as irregular bleeding etc. irregular bleeding is normal on this pill- so is no bleeding.

This is from the NHS It takes 2 days (48 hours of pill taking so 3 pills) for the POP to thicken cervical mucus so that sperm cannot get through or survive. The Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare advises using extra contraception for 2 days after you remember to take your pill. The patient information leaflet that comes with your pill might say to use condoms for the next 7 days after you remember to take your pill. This is because it takes 7 days for the pill to stop ovulation. It says it’s effective after 2 days. Yes it says it takes 7 days to stop ovulation BUT - “It takes 2 days for the POP to thicken cervical mucus so that sperm cannot get through or survive” - stopping ovulation is not the only way the mini pill works - it is *still effective* after two days because semen cannot physically pass through the cervix or survive.

if you take the pill **correctly** (accounting for anything that can affect it and taking it within the timeframe) then yes it’s completely okay, my partner has finished in me since march 2023 on this pill

@slayqueen967 defo it’s great for advice, don’t forget to set an alarm on your actual phone too as i’ve heard some users sometimes get no notification- although it’s never happened to me x

22:39
@onthepillxo is there anything serious that affects it?

5/6+ trips/cups of fully liquid diarrhoea in 24 hours, throw up within 3 hours of taking the pill- or if you throw up multiple times that can also affect it but that’s for you to judge. (if you’re ever in doubt about if you’re protected use condoms). some antibiotics do, you can find them on the nhs website. taking it 12 or more hours after you are supposed to. i can’t think of anything else right now but do some research around it incase i missed anything !! x

@onthepillxo yeah i’ve researched a bit before i got it, but i don’t plan to be sexually active straight away yet anyway xx
