Possible tmi: I started a new pack of my pills, but I might be breakthrough bleeding. I’ve been on the pill for over two years and haven’t experienced this until now, so I’m a bit scared. I’m also scared I might have a uti, since on Tuesday I randomly experienced the strong urge to pee but nothing came out. Then I looked in the toilet and saw it was red. On Wednesday the feeling went away, but just now I’m experiencing the strong urge to pee again with nothing there, and blood in the toilet water when I try really hard to pee. I ended up ruling this out since the blood was coming from my vagina and not my urethra by sticking a tampon in. But now I’m worried, and I can’t differentiate if it’s breakthrough bleeding or if I have a uti. When I wipe there’s tiny clots on the toilet paper and the blood looks bright red and thin. I’ve also never gotten a uti before so I’m unsure.

Breakthrough bleeding can occur at any time. The same thing happened to me, I had never experienced breakthrough bleeding and then I did after years. As for a UTI, best to get checked so it doesn’t get worse! To me it sounds like you have a UTI. Urge to pee, discomfort, and blood in urine are all effects of a UTI. Just go see a doctor and they will help you! I’ve a had UTI before and getting checked for one is a super easy process

Please see a doctor immediately or go to the emergency room, UTI’s need to be treated by antibiotics and it’s of utmost importance you don’t wait around. Ignoring an UTI will cause it to spread to your kidneys.

Thanks guys, I booked an appointment with my doctor but they’re all booked up until monday, so I guess I’ll have to stick it out until then :/ and if I go to an emergency room i’d have to wait 10+ hours so I guess I don’t have much of a choice

@dtibaddie Hopefully your symptoms don’t get worse! Drink LOTS of water in the meantime

@nrayne that’s exactly what I’m doing, luckily after all the water I’ve been drinking there isn’t blood in my pee anymore and it doesn’t hurt, but I’ll still go to the doctor on Monday. Thanks for all the advice
