Hi!! I had a uti where i was taking antibiotics that did affect my birth control. After i was finished taking the antibiotics, 5 days later i ended up having unprotected sex. As a precaution, i did take a plan b. But, now I’m 4 days late. Today would be day 5. Im a little concerned. Any thoughts?

Those antibiotics shouldn’t affect the pill. Only rifampicin and rifabutin type antibiotics (which treat serious illnesses like TB and meningitis) decrease the effectiveness of the pill, in those cases I believe they affect the pill for 28 days after you stop taking them.

Plan b is a huge dose of hormones and is known to cause side effects like irregular bleeding for several weeks and possibly months after taking it.

@bluerose9 i was taking cefdinir and i looked it up. It does say it affects birth control.

@Reddd_ you’re best to talk to a pharmacist or other medical professional to get proper advice! Being ill and plan b can affect bleeding, and bleeding on the pill is a not a real natural period anyway, so you’re best to take a test 3 weeks after possibly unprotected sex to rule out pregnancy.
