Hey guys, I just had a little question and I was wondering if I could also get some advice. So I have been taking my birth control for about 3-4 months and I hadn’t experienced breakthrough bleeding yet and I don’t know if that’s what I am experiencing now so I was wondering if anyone has experienced it before and how long did it last/what did it look like for you? Also I researched a bit and I have been taking my pill inconsistently on accident and I missed one before I restarted it. Also I stopped taking my bc for 4 days and then I restarted a new pack. So I’m wondering if breakthrough bleeding is what I am experiencing or something else. It’s starting to make me a bit nervous for it to be something else. Side note: I am still taking my pill and it’s not during a placebo week. Any advice or information you can give me would be very helpful and appreciated.

Missing pills, and taking them inconsistently can most definitely cause side effects such as break through bleeding, that is probably what you’re experiencing as long as you are sure there’s no possibility you might be pregnant

Breakthrough bleeding is any bleeding that occurs during active pills; this is a common side effect of the pill that can be experienced even years after using it. As mentioned above being inconsistent with your pill may cause side effects such as (irregular) bleeding. Breakthrough bleeding can last from minutes to multiple weeks, for some even months. If you cannot be consistent with your birth control you’re better off swapping to a method that fits your lifestyle better or come off completely to stop your body from spiralling into a constant state of adjusting being on and off the pill; which further enhances the side effects.
