okay ya’ll, doubling my pill each day to stop breakthrough bleeding, really can’t have my period until the 15th of march as I have a trip planned! Is it safe or not? Has anyone here done it? I’m on Levlen 150/30, scared I’ll mess something up. Will do my break as soon as I get back, I have taken my pill continuously for like 5 months now. Thanks! Brand: Levlen ED

Why not just ask ur doctor to prescribe you a stronger prescription?

Have thought about this, but this isn’t usually an issue for me as I would just have my break, it’s just this instance where I really don’t want it to start yet! I am also afraid a higher dose may give me unwanted side effects as right now my dose has cleared my skin and improved my mood a lot

You should take your medication as prescribed. Where did you even get the info to take two pills a day?? Did you talk to your dr about this? Why not just skip your break week.

I am planning on skipping my break week, as I have been doing for 5 months continuously now, breakthrough bleeding started a few days ago, usually it doesn’t go away until I have my break, I looked it up and I found a few studies suggesting to take 2 pills to stop breakthrough bleeding, but I am hesitant to do so as it’s not how it is prescribed and I probably would not do it at all, just wanted to see if anyone else knew more about it than me.

Personally I wouldn’t take advice like that from the internet definitely consult a pharmacist or doctor because doubling up like that can cause a bunch of side effects

I would not do something like that unless instructed by a pharmacist or your doctor to do so. Unfortunately there’s not really anything you can do that’s guaranteed to stop bleeding other than prescription medications prescribed by doctors.

Get adviced by a doctor. You shouldn’t just make these type of adjustments or decisions around any type of medication.

@lux999 Hi! If you take ibuprofen 200/400 mg, it can stop the breakthrough bleeding but only for a few hours. If you want it to pass faster, I'd suggest staying hydrated and try to not be stressed. Also don't lift heavy for a while.

You can still call your doctor and see what they can offer or suggest. I have heard of doctors prescribing medication in order to delay periods (for vacations, weddings, events etc) . Not sure if it is applicable for those taking birth control though.
