Help. Been working out for about more than a month and been doing lots of glute workouts such as lunges, squats, side squats, and regular cardio with a mix of jumping jacks and running. KNEES ARE KILLING ME. They hurt bad now whenever I do a side squat. But I want to keep going to keep my consistency so I can build my glute muscles. What to do ? Should I stop for a while then start again? How do people get to such goals with a knee pain after too much working out and stress on knees?

Maybe take a couple of days off every week and take some Advil?

Incorporate more knee friendly glute exercises such as hip thrusts, glute bridges, and kickbacks if your knees hurt a lot.

Gluteus maximus gets all the attention and gluteus medius is often neglected. Side planks (or half side planks) with hip abduction are great if you’ve got the control to do them correctly. A lot of research says work the hips for 4 weeks before reintroducing hips and knees together. If that doesn’t calm it down, find a good PT as you may need joint mobilizations for patella, taping, IT band massage, etc.

Also pain in your knees when doing squats can be an indication you don’t have correct form

Use a Back on Track knee brace! I’m pretty hard on my body but I wear the knee and ankle braces every night and they really help get rid of some of the pain and stiffness.

You should be taking a few days a week as a rest day. Work on different muscles. Improve your form.

this could be a form issue or could be weaknesses in your knees. how long has the pain been going on? if it's been a while I'd go see a physio as they're gonna be the most help here I've got crap knees and they roll in so whenever I'm doing squats or anything I use a resistance band to make sure I'm pushing them outwards. I also do a stuff that focuses on my VMO which can be weak and cause knee pain, so do split squats and step ups.
