Hi all, I have posted about this before but was hoping for advice again. Since November I have been getting periods that last, on average, at least 12 days and I am on the pill. Very heavy and usually with lots of clots which is not like how my period da were before when on the pill, normally super light. The bleeding always starts at least one week before my break week. I have changed brands and have seen no change. Would it be worth it to take a break from taking the pill for a while? (I would obviously consult a doctor). It is just incredibly annoying and frustrating

Have you tried skipping your breaks completely?

@aurielle I haven’t. Would that help if the bleeding starts before my break week anyways?

Taking a longer break from birth control doesn’t really accomplish anything. I recommend trying a new brand or new method.

you’ve tried two then? some people switch multiple times before finding a pill that works, or switch to another kind of birth control. i’d say talk to your doctor about your options.

@jorts22 I was on one for years and never had any issues until November. I switched about three months ago and nothing has changed

@dftba the adjustment period is up to 6 months so I would give it more time to see if things change.

You might need to give it more time than 3 months it can take up to 6 to fully adjust to the new pill, otherwise have you chatted with your doctor about it potentially not being pill related?

@Monkeybutt63 my doctor told me three months so this is good info I will wait a few more months to see if anything changes. We have talked about it being something else. I have had labs done twice as well as an ultrasound and nothing has come up. It’s very odd

@dftba it takes 3-6 months to adjust to any type of medication. If it continues to be awful you can always try the patch or a semi-permanent method to see if it’s better.

@Yi_eune That’s a good idea!
