Agree with the above, Ricola original cough drops work the best for me, tea with honey, gargling with warm salt water, popsicles, chloraseptic throat spray for numbing, Gatorade to stay hydrated, and OTC pain relievers (if you can take them with what your doctor prescribed). check and see if the pain relief meds your doctor prescribed have acetaminophen or ibuprofen in. If not, you may be able to alternate acetaminophen and ibuprofen. A couple years ago I had strep and tonsillitis at the same time and it was awful. I took Tylenol (acetaminophen) and then like 2 hours later took Motrin (ibuprofen) because then by the time my Tylenol wore off the Motrin was going strong. You just don’t want to do it on an empty stomach. But if you’re taking another pain reliever, definitely talk to your doctor first.
I was also prescribed steroids because my throat was so swollen. Which really helped with being able to swallow better.
