I’ve heard a lot of different things so i’m not sure what to believe. Does the pill cause weight gain, or is there any changes that cause you to gain weight? I’d like to loose weight but have been finding it very hard since being on the pill about 2 and a half years now. Before i was on the pill, i was a very good weight but have gained quite a lot. i’m considering coming off the pill for weight loss, however it also has its benefits for me so im finding this decision hard. did anybody else find they also gained a lot of weight?

my understanding is that it’s pretty contested nowadays whether or not weight gain is included as a proper side effect, at least in the long term. maybe it’s related in your case, since you said that weight gain/loss has changed since getting on it. it could also be unrelated and just due to aging or something. weight and hormones definitely affect each other in some ways. i’d say talk to your doctor about it and see what they think.

In terms of clinical studies they have shown that hormonal birth control does not cause weight gain. A lot of people start the pill at the end of their teen years or 20s which is when they naturally gain weight anyway. In future it's appreciated if you can include a trigger warning on posts about weight gain.
