Hi everyone! So i recently hooked up with this guy a little over a week ago, we did use a condom but not when we did oral. He told me the other day that a partner he had prior had found out they had an std and felt super bad about potentially passing it to me so we both got tested. I’m currently awaiting the test results, a little bit nervous but I know its not the end of the world if i do have one. I think i’m just looking for some advice on what to do / stay away from or common misconceptions about sti’s. I just felt like i needed someone to tell but I don’t have many friends who can relate on this subject with me so I figured I would try here!

Get retested in 3 months and regularly get tested every 6 months if you’re active with multiple people. Some STIs have an incubation period of several weeks so a test a week after sex may not be accurate. For future maybe avoid oral sex without condoms/dental dams unless with a partner that has tested negative for STIs (and you too obvs) first.

The majority of STIs are easily treatable so you're right that it's not the end of the world. Since you did oral did you make sure to get tested in the throat?

I’ve had chlamydia orally twice and luckily for me I got symptoms almost immediately the following day. It was the absolute worst sore throat I’ve ever had in my entire life and it was a hard lesson learned. I recommend being very strict with STI results in the future or completely abstaining from performing oral sex. I had many partners that I told I would not give them oral until they were tested and most were fine with that. The ones that weren’t I just didn’t proceed with having sex with them. It’s definitely not the end of the world and the stigma really can get to you but just remember it’s like any other infection, like a yeast infection or BV. Someone just happened to give you this one.

Thank you all! My tests came back negative but I’m going to retest in another week just to be safe (to make sure from the incubation period) ! I tested negative for all those then popped positive for strep throat lol 😂 but thankfully that is easy to treat! Definitely going to be so so much safer in the future with STIs
