Possible TW mention of body changes/clothes How long do you guys typically keep and wear an item of clothing? I'm trying to be way more intentional about sustainability and moving away from fast fashion but I realize there are very few items in my wardrobe that are even 5 years old. My body has changed significantly in those 5 years so I guess it's not really my fault that a lot of things don't fit me anymore but I think the majority of my closet has turned over in 3-4 years due to items no longer fitting, going out of style, or wear and tear. I do take care of my clothes, give away everything in good condition instead of tossing it, and I get a fair amount of things from my sister or mom so they get a second life which is nice. But it kinda feels like I'm failing at sustainability already if my clothes aren't lasting more than 3-4 years. I'm trying to buy less and invest in high quality materials so things will last longer too but that translates into buying more stuff lol. What do you guys do to practice slow fashion and sustainability?

I love thrifting! And garage sales are even better! Hand me downs too and clothing swaps in the community/with friends are so fun. I’ve found these thrift store that have bins and sell by the pound those are my absolute fav! But you do have to dig through the clothes. I’ve found great things in them though. Like name brand or great quality, brand new. And it’s a lot easier to let go of the clothes knowing I bought it so cheap. I don’t usually buy new, maybe for special occasions like my bday. But majority second hand. I feel like its worth the time to look to find some good stuff in second hand places. I usually buy bigger sized clothing just cause that’s what I’m comfy in and enjoy wearing. So the changes in my body allow me to keep some of my stuff. But body changes are normal. And new clothes is so much fun! I think it’s okay especially if it’s second hand clothing that you can find and enjoy for a few years. Even if you are spending on quality items at local businesses or something that fine because your money goes back to the community. You’re not failing you’re doing the best you can and the fact that you’re even aware of you environmental impact is good enough. No one is perfect at sustainability, we all just find where we can really thrive in it. No one is perfect at it. But I think it’s okay that you hang one for like 3/4 years that’s a good amount of time :) I saw once that at the beginning of a year your switch your hangers all backwards. Like all facing you instead of away from you. Then each time you use a shirt you place it back the correct way. So that overtime you can tell which clothing you use and which ones you don’t.

@stinaaa omg yes I really want to get into thrifting next. One of my great joys is shopping and digging for a hidden gem so I think thrifting will allow me to have that fun hobby while being more sustainable. Thank you for the advice it's really reassuring to hear!

Of course 🫶🏽 thrifting sounds like just the thing for you! Haha. And once you find really great stuff for real cheap you kinda start to hate shopping retail lol. Everything is too damn expensive 💀 there’s enough clothing in the world to clothes 6-7 generations. 😵‍💫 like gwhat
