If you took your pills correctly then there is near to no chance. There is a tiny tiny percentage of people who have a gene mutation which stops BC from working, but if someone had that, then it would’ve never worked in the first place, so they wouldn’t get side effects or a withdrawal bleed (“period”) etc. If you’ve already experienced the affects of your BC, you can rule it out, so taking it incorrectly would be the only way for it to stop working. If you have a heavy bleed, it is unlikely you are pregnant. That being said, you can still bleed in pregnancy, and lack of bleeding DOESNT mean you are pregnant. It is common for bc to lighten or stop bleeding altogether. The only way to know for sure is to take a pregnancy test, but that is not needed if you take your pills properly.

You don’t have a monthly period because you don’t ovulate. You have two bleeds breakthrough which happens on your active pills and withdrawal that happens on break week/days

@seechell I have been taking the last pills in my pack (placebos) since 2 days and have some bleeding. My doctor prescribed birth control because Of PCOS and to help regulate my period. So is this not considered a real period?? Sorry I’m just confused...

No it’s not a period because a period happens to release an egg which you don’t release anymore while on the pill you don’t ovulate on the pill which is why it’s called breakthrough or withdrawal bleeding

There’s a lot of misconception about the pill. Everything said above is accurate

the withdrawal bleed mimics a period, but is not a real period since there is no ovulation as mentioned above. the whole point of the pill is to stop ovulation which then prevents any chance of getting pregnant. it’s good to read up on the science behind the pill to know how it works and trust it :) side note here, but it’s not actually required that you take a break week. you can safely shorten it or skip it entirely if you’d like.
