Don’t know if I am being stubborn about my work situation. Moved country and took ages to find a job so I accepted a role in a school for now until I find something related to my masters and past jobs. First they gave me my contract with a different start date to what we agreed without telling me. Then sent me a revised contract with correct date. One week into working they decided to change my contract again which mean I won’t be getting paid over summer (originally I should have been) and my contract ended on last day of term and will start again first day of school year (not signed contract yet). Then they wanted me to work over summer which i was told I wouldn’t be required to work over summers/half terms as I am term time only. I said I won’t work without a contract and I should be paid in full like I was meant to be and like every member of staff is. Had the same conversation with her 3 times as for some reason she just wasn’t accepting that. Then continues to send me work to do via email which I’ve ignored. Then HR messaged me asking my availability to work over summer. Told them the same thing. Then they said principal wants to change my start date. Messaged me today and said can I start tomorrow and I will be required to work in school when before term ended the principal wanted me to work from home. Just annoyed about the whole situation and I feel why should I do them a favour a start work early (haven’t even said if I’ll be paid for it or how much etc) when they took away my pay for the summer and have clearly not listened to my reasons and concerns I have. I hate the principal and the job as it’s just not what I studied for and it feels like a massive step back career wise but I would like the money whilst I look for another job. Not sure if I am being stubborn or what do you think? Not sure what I should say back to HR about this. My husband has also taken time off over the summer so we can spend time together before I’m back at work and it’s our wedding anniversary!

I'm not sure what the laws are in the country you're at but how can they change the contract after you've signed it?

@aurielle That was my first thought but think it can be a bit of a grey area here

I find it weird they can make adjustment to a contract that’s already been signed. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal. Maybe see if you can get some advice by calling up a law firm.

I would recommend starting looking for other jobs. Even if this job turns out okay clearly they are not honest and transparent. If they’re screwing you over before you even start the job it’s a bad sign.
