someone i just saw online said that the pill is the “least effective contraceptive” and “you can get pregnant any day, taking it correctly, at any point on your cycle”. how does this make any sense ?? she also said she got pregnant on the IUD, and all of her friends who have kids got pregnant on the pill.

Where did you see this? Doubt it’s a credible source.

@Yi_eune it definitely wasn’t a credible source. i’m just totally curious where anyone would hear that at all? i have my anxieties but ive never heard it to be considered the “least effective” at all..

@nicoanstic_ there is so much misinformation out there. People have a habit of asking people online instead of reading their instructions and there are people out there that will intentionally misinform you if they are against birth control. Fear mongering is very much real. There’s also a lot of people who got pregnant while on birth control due to them messing it up, but never acknowledge their mistakes (or they never even knew they messed up in the first place). People have a hard time to admit to their own faults. It’s easier to blame something else. There is a reason why user error is the number one reason why birth control tends to fail. Another thing is that online you will mostly find negative experiences as people usually do not feel the need to share their experience unless it had a negative impact. I do think the pill is the most sensitive when it comes to user error as it has a daily routine, compared to a semi-permanent method, but the pill is still perfectly reliable when used correctly.

A lot of people who claim the pill doesn’t work simply didn’t use it correctly and often didn’t even realise they weren’t using it correctly. It’s a lot easier to blame an inanimate object who won’t argue back than take accountability for your own mistakes and save yourself some embarrassment instead admitting the consequences are a result of your own actions. Also scare mongering content on TikTok gets a lot of views. So there’s also a financial incentive to exaggerate the truth or straight up lie about something like this these days. Which is scary honestly. Getting pregnant on the IUD is particularly unlikely and most pregnancies that occur with an IUD are ectopic. So I really doubt the authenticity of this individual’s claims. I definitely wouldn’t let it scare you or doubt your own contraception. It’s also important to remember this forum is a very very very small percentage of pill users and the people on this forum are far more educated than the average pill user. Someone shared a study here years ago where users were given packs that tracked when they opened a pill and the results of that study showed the average pill user missed something like 2-3 pills…. Per month….!! So if you’re taking your birth control seriously and know how to properly take it you’re doing far better than the majority of pill users lol

Everyone else has perfectly replied to this just wanted to say when people say the pill is the "least effective" they just mean it has the highest user error because obviously taking a pill every day has more potential for mistakes than a long-acting method like an IUD that you get fitted once and don't have to do anything for years. But apparently this person doesn't believe in IUDs either so they're contradicting themselves lol. At perfect use the pill is just as effective as other methods.
