Just booked my first councelling session - feel TERRIFIED. Its to help me with work stress and anxiety/depression, but I feel like theres some deeper childhood traumas that ive buried. I dont know if i want to uncover them but i did mention this in my initial assessment. I’d rather not know, but i think its probably why ive spent my whole life being anxious. Anyone had similar experience? :(

I’ll be honest my first time doing counseling I froze every time they asked a question even relating to anxiety or depression. It’s gonna be kinda weird at first but what helps is finding your right person. Having someone your comfortable with and can talk to easily helps a lot. Plus majority of people won’t ask directly about anything that makes you uncomfortable or seems blunt, instead in my experience they ask about why u feel a certain way and have u put complicated feelings into words. Hope this helps!

Therapy is always at your own pace. If you don't feel comfortable talking about childhood traumas yet, you don't have to. You can take as much time as you need and get more comfortable with your counselor before sharing. Or you don't have to address that topic at all. You really are in charge of how your counseling goes.
