i was recently thinking of switching from the combination pill to the birth control patch. my family told me of terrible issues that stemmed from it. i'm still trying to figure out myths and truths. any input helps!

Terrible issues such as?

@Yi_eune i was being told of "strokes", "miscarriages after discontinuation", and that the amount of estrogen being higher would cause worse pmdd symptoms

Stroke is possible with any combined birthcontrol, so it can happen on any other one aswell, miscarriage can be caused by being on the patch and getting pregnant and continuing to use it, but not after stopping the patch that would be something unrelated

Do not take any medical advice seriously from anyone who is not your doctor or a medical professional who you’re being treated by.
Strokes are only a concern if you’re over 35 and smoke cigarettes and/or have a family or personal history of strokes, blood clots or high blood pressure. If that’s the case you should switch to a method without oestrogen, which does not have those risks.
I’ve personally never heard of any connection between miscarriages and hormonal birth control.

^Yes as long as you don’t experience migraines from the pill, you get your blood pressure checked regularly & don’t have family history of blood clots/strokes then it’s extremely unlikely. Evidence shows the pill does not cause issues with infertility.

also in addition to the above comments, I read that if you are on the pill for more than 6 months than it is lesser likely to cause those effects as well.
