If you wait for the first day of your period, you should be protected (read your pamphlet.) If not, you need extra protection for the first 7 days (8 pills) of your birth control pack. I started mine the Sunday after my period ended because I wanted it to line up with the pack days (and my doctor instructed me to do that).. and I avoided sex entirely until it was in effect.

Have you read your pamphlet yet? You should do this before starting to you know how to take it.

@Yi_eune I have read it and it said to take it before my period starts then waiting the 7 days for it to fully reach its potential but I have my period in 2 weeks and im a very impatient person 😮‍💨 I checked planned parenthood and one question was like mine and their answer said it doesn’t matter when you take it but I wanted to see if that was an option as well and if it was ok or what the consequences would be, just an irregular period?

Do you not have a gynecologist that you can talk to? Just wondering because if you have questions especially for ur first time taking starting you should ask them because they can give you a lot of information. If it says to take it when ur period starts then you are protected right away as long as you start it within the first 5 days of ur period. If you start it before then you would have to wait until 7 days (ur 8th pill) until you are fully protected.

So I did research and read the pamphlet throughly and read through other peoples experiences including friends and trying it before, just stated that its fine but the effect will just take longer to set, ill give a try and suffer the consequences for research

@Shyfox irregular bleeding is always an option. No matter how you start or how long you’ve been on birth control for. You don’t experience a period while on birth control, it’s either breakthrough bleeding (active pills) or a withdrawal bleed (break week). When you use your pills correctly you don’t ovulate. Whether you bleed or not is also irrelevant. Personally I’d just start taking it and wait until you’re protected. I recommend using condoms for the first while anyway as you’re getting used to the pill.

The adjustment period doesn’t get longer or shorter based on when you start your birth control. It’s 3-6 months, just like any other standard medication. I don’t know who told you that but I wouldn’t rely on them for further advice 😅
