A withdrawal bleed is not a real period as it occurs due to a drop in hormones rather than an egg not being fertilised. Whilst heavy bleeding does mean than a pregnancy would not be viable, taking your pills correctly is the best indicator of not being pregnant as light bleeding is possible when pregnant. Birth control also thins uterine lining so bleeding can lighten and even completely stop on the pill hence why it’s not the best indicator

If you take your pills correctly you won’t be pregnant, bleeding is not a reliable indicator.

But if my bleeding was heavy does it mean I’m not pregnant?

like i said a heavy bleed would indicate that you’re not pregnant as a pregnancy would not be viable

Okay, I get what you mean now. It’s not a reliable indicator bc implantation bleeding can also be mistaken as withdrawal bleeding right?

But if it is heavy, it is definitely withdrawal bleeding?

no, it’s not a reliable indicator because the bleeding on your break occurs due to the drop in hormones, not because an egg wasn’t fertilised. please re read my original comment. any bleeding on your break is a withdrawal bleed. implantation is rare and might not even be a thing and it’s impossible on the pill as you don’t ovulate. i would only be concerned about pregnancy if you’ve missed pills. the pill works by thinning the uterine lining too which is why you might stop bleeding or only have light bleeding on your break and that doesn’t mean you’re pregnant. if you missed pills and have heavy bleeding then yeah sure use it as an indicator because a pregnancy would not be viable but the best indicator is taking your pill correctly as the bleeding on the pill is either a side effect (breakthrough bleeding during active pills) or due to the drop in hormones (withdrawal bleeding during your break)

I haven’t missed pills, but I haven’t been taking them consistently (as in took them at different times). But it doesn’t matter bc I can take combined pills at any time of the day right? I did get heavy withdrawal bleeding after that

you have a 24hr usage window on the combined pill so you’re fine
