Sister advice: I’ve been dating this guy since sometime in late April, and as of today, he still hasn’t asked me to be his girlfriend. For context, since day one we’ve talked and acted like we’re dating exclusively. He also knows very well that I would like him to actually ask me to be his girlfriend. We had that conversation after we went out with some friends and he introduced me using just my first and last name. Everyone kind of paused, like they were expecting him to say something else, like “my friend,” “family,” or “my girlfriend.” (3-4 months dating) The last time we talked about it was in August, I asked him if we were on the same page, and he said yes. He even acknowledged that he hasn’t forgotten that I would like him to formally ask me to be his girlfriend. So… what do you think? Because at this point, I’m a little confused. We do everything as a couple but I don’t even know his fam.

I was going to say communicate with him but it seems you made it clear you were ready to make it official and you wanted him to ask you. Personally I would strongly consider ending it now as it’s got to the point where he’s stringing you along a little. Don’t give girlfriend benefits to someone who won’t commit to you.

Sounds like he enjoys the benefit of being in a relationship without the label. He’s had enough time, he’s said you guys are on the same page but nothing is happening. If he truly was on the same page then he wouldn’t be acting the opposite.

I would just say basically what you said here and bring up the topic one more time, say that you’ve been dating for almost 6 months and based on previous conversations you would have expected him to ask you to be his girlfriend and have started introducing you to people as his partner by now. And that you’re confused why that isn’t the case by now. If he fobs you off with the exact same thing he said the last time then you know for sure you’re wasting your time.
