Offered a new job that’s double my current salary but unsure whether to accept it.
Moved from UK to Qatar a year ago and struggled to find a job. Accepted a job as a teaching assistant but not what my education and work background is but the school is brand new and they said there is a potential lab tech job available next academic year. The school seems nice and so do the staff and most are British/irish so it feels easy to fit in. New job is a lab tech role at a university and is double my current salary. During my interview they took me for a tour, the facilities seem good but the staff and students are mainly Qataris I would say, a few Americans etc so I worry about ‘fitting in’. I know it sounds really stupid but being here a year and not being able to get out much and meet people, at least with the school I feel I have more chance of making friends as I’m not sure if local people would want to be friends with a British girl lol. The school just has a nice feel to it (maybe because it’s new and hardly any students yet). The extra money would great as it would mean I could get a car and have more disposable money each month. If I stay at the school yes there is potential for a lab tech job next September but no guarantee I would get it and the salary may not be as good as what I’ve been offered. Am I overthinking the whole situation. Should I just take the new job?
