Offered a new job that’s double my current salary but unsure whether to accept it. Moved from UK to Qatar a year ago and struggled to find a job. Accepted a job as a teaching assistant but not what my education and work background is but the school is brand new and they said there is a potential lab tech job available next academic year. The school seems nice and so do the staff and most are British/irish so it feels easy to fit in. New job is a lab tech role at a university and is double my current salary. During my interview they took me for a tour, the facilities seem good but the staff and students are mainly Qataris I would say, a few Americans etc so I worry about ‘fitting in’. I know it sounds really stupid but being here a year and not being able to get out much and meet people, at least with the school I feel I have more chance of making friends as I’m not sure if local people would want to be friends with a British girl lol. The school just has a nice feel to it (maybe because it’s new and hardly any students yet). The extra money would great as it would mean I could get a car and have more disposable money each month. If I stay at the school yes there is potential for a lab tech job next September but no guarantee I would get it and the salary may not be as good as what I’ve been offered. Am I overthinking the whole situation. Should I just take the new job?

could you not go to the new school and stay in touch with the colleagues from your current school? :)

I think it could be worth getting out of your comfort zone at the university and trying to make friends with the local Qataris. Since you haven't had the opportunity to get out much how do you necessarily know they'll be difficult to befriend unless you give it a try?

^ sounds like a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the local community, I’m sure you haven’t moved half away across the world to only spend your time with people from your home country. And obviously make good money, you’ve posted a few times about having a tough time getting a job so imo it’s worth it for the money alone.
