Been with my bf for almost 7 years and I love him so much. We have lived together for three years & have plans to get engaged soon. My only concern is finances. We currently make the same full time salary and we're doing really really well. I just worry about the future. He works in the sports media industry and it can be volatile. I have heard how hard it is to land roles in, very intensive hours, hard work, and lower pay etc. He already works a ton at his current place and we have seen how intense the industry is in. I worry that even though we are doing well now, what happens if things go wrong? What if he loses his job and cannot find another? My income isn't enough for the both of us. I love him so much and I am really excited about being with his for the rest of our lives, but it feels like a whole new world of navigating finances now with full time jobs and all the new expenses we cover. I guess it is normal to be anxious about making sure we are doing as good as we can be financially?

I think that's a very normal, responsible concern. My fiance and I just got engaged this year after 9 years together because we wanted to save and both be started in our careers and have an idea what our finances would be like. I think it's totally understandable to have those concerns, maybe saving up for a couple of years would build both of your comfort levels up.

Talk to him about it! It might be worth looking into income protection insurances, saving a rainy day fund like @sams2095 said & keeping in mind job security/future plans when picking a mortgage multiplier or finance options for stuff like cars.

Personally I wouldn't really worry about this until you have to cross that bridge.
