I’m having my first period after being on the pill for 3/4 years (I was told I didn’t need to have a break until recently by my doctor who was surprised they told me that to begin with). What should I expect? I always had really bad periods so nervous to start having them again

Sadly you can’t really expect anything. It might be worse it might be much better. No way to know as it’s been years since you’ve had a natural bleed

@Yi_eune My period before starting the pill lasted around 7-10 days and got to the point I would have a week off school every month. I’m only having a 4 day break. Will there be much bleeding on my first break or is it hard to tell?

There’s no way to predict it. You don’t need to have a break week on the pill, have you been told you need to have break weeks?

@bluerose9 I was told when I started my pill I don’t need to have a break at all if it’s not wanted. I haven’t had one since I started. I’ve now been told I should be having breaks

You don't need to take breaks/have periods, that's just incorrect.

@aurielle Ah okay. Is there a reason why I’m being told I should be taking breaks?

The person is just probably misinformed or they’re not up to date with how birth control works

@bellagrace did they give you a reason?

@bellagrace there is no medical or health reason for break weeks. If not taking breaks suits you then I’d probably keep doing that, your doctor is clearly not well informed on hormonal contraception so feel free to ignore their advice lol x
