I’d like some reassurance and/or similar experiences… so, I’ve now been on the mini pill for 9 months now and I have regular periods. Prior to being on the mini pill, I was postpartum for 3 months and had no periods. Before being pregnant, I was on a combination pill for 10 years. I’ve noticed that since being on the POP, my cycle is quite short (IMO), averaging 26 days. However, tonight I find myself bleeding at 23-24 days which is a first for me in 20 years of having periods / withdrawal bleeding. I’m now wondering if something’s wrong with my body or if this is normal considering my history. Thanks for any comments!

It’s completely normal to have breakthrough bleeding, since you’re taking birthcontrol you don’t actually have a real cycle anymore, also it’s much more common to have breakthrough bleeding or lack of any bleeding at all on the progestin only pills, it’s all normal side effects :)

It is completely normal, however, since it’s a mini pill it would be ideal if you didn’t bleed at all. Might be worth trying a different dosage.

I was told that 50% of women have their actual period while taking the POP. Isn’t it normal then to bleed?

@Wanderess that’s if you’re on the norethindrone mini pill. If you’re on the desogestrel mini pill then ovulation is suppressed and users do not experience a normal period/cycle. Irregular bleeding is a common side effect of any kind of hormonal birth control at any time while on it, so it’s normal to bleed yea. Ideally you don’t bleed at all on the mini pill but irregular bleeding is common.
