@k273iii @k273iii I was a server there a couple months ago. I liked it but it was definitely hard sometimes because you’re always being interactive with customers. So coming to work when you’re having a bad day is hard because you can’t just go hide and not talk to anyone you have to fake it. Also the tips alternate some days are average some really good and some really bad but it’s just very inconsistent.

Not specifically Outback but I was a hostess at another chain family restaurant. You’ll probably see a lot of regulars, in mine there was a happy hour and you’d see a lot of the the same faces every day as well. They just head straight to the bar lol same chair same order. Over time you’ll realize there’s peak days and slower days (for example, mine was crazy busy on Wednesdays due to a special they had) Monday’s and Tuesday’s are usually slower and the servers will beg for good tables because they hate standing around. As a hostess it becomes a bit of the same cycle every week. You’ll eventually see your usual family with kids begging to sit down quickly so they can get out of there fast and so on lol I honestly learned a lot about patience and just to be comforting to the customers with the usual “I’ll do my best to have you seated quickly” knowing that you have no control over that but you learn to have small talk and to give good customer service which is helpful in any job you may have moving forward Also when I was a hostess we got a portion of the tips from the servers so don’t let them pressure you into giving them “better tables” - for example at my job, servers usually hated large parties of women only. They said that they’re usually complicated, waste a lot of time and tend to be worse tippers than men. If it’s their section and their turn in the rotation, they need to take the table.
