I’m currently experience breakthrough bleeding and would like some tips!! I started aubra combination pill on the 7th and started experiencing bleeding on the 10th (one day before i was expecting to start my period). I had a regular flow for about 3 days but I’ve been spotting ever since which is not usual for me because my periods are typically very light and are finished completely by the 5th day. Im wondering if i should wait it out a bit more or take a break?

since you’ve just started the pill recently, it’s not concerning that your bleeding is all irregular. it takes time to adjust. it’s generally safer to not take a break early, and absolutely do not take a break before you’ve taken at least 8 pills consecutively. i believe it would be counted as missing pills (somebody correct me if i’m misremembering that please)

Unfortunately irregular bleeding is a common side effect of the pill, particularly when you’re new to it. It’s best to take your pill as instructed, side effects do not dictate how the pill is taken. I personally wouldn’t advise taking a break week if experiencing irregular bleeding unless it’s been going on for 10+ days and it’s quite heavy. And @jorts22 yes is correct, generally break weeks are only protected if you’ve taken the last 7 pills correctly. Also taking a break week isn’t guaranteed to change your bleeding.

I would like to advice you to stop tracking your bleeds, there is no point in doing so as you are never “due” to bleed while on the combined pill (as you won’t be ovulating when using it correctly), ideally it would happen during your break weeks but irregular bleeding is a side effect, and it’s entirely possible you stop bleeding completely after a while.
