I just started birth control about a month ago n my mom got me to download this app to remind me cause I keep forgetting, I end up taking my pill a few hours later if I don’t remember, is that a bad thing? n I’ve been reading some of these posts do I have to do a break week if I do, can someone inform me on what that is?

So depending on what type of pill you’re on you could have a usage window of anywhere from 3-24 hours which means you either have 3 hours after when you usually take it before you become unprotected or you can have one that’s 24 hours after when you’re supposed to take it to become unprotected, that in mind missing or taking a pill late can increase the chances of getting side effects such as breakthrough bleeding. You do not have to take a break week, but if you are doing that make sure whoever gives you the prescription writes for 4 packs instead of 3 to make the 3 month supply, if you are taking a break week you can either have a 21,24, or 28 day pack. 21 days means you take it for 21 days and stop for 7 days and that’s when you have your break, 24 days is you take 24 actives pills and 4 placebo pills and during the 4 pills you have your break same with 28 days you take 21 active pills and 7 placebo pills and that’s when your break is

you only have break weeks on the combined pill ^ if you’re on the mini pill do not take break weeks or you become immediately unprotected
