Hi I’ve been on the pill for 5 years now!! I’m thinking of coming off as I really don’t want to be on it any longer. I just wondered how people’s experiences were with coming off? Negative and positive sides? I’m concerned how my periods will be once coming off like irregular or something?

You can experience side effects/withdrawal effects for up to 12-16 months after quitting. Most people adjust being off relatively quick but not everyone does. Irregular bleeding may occur.

I just came off the pill after 12 years (!!!) and so far my side effects haven’t been horrible. I’ve been off the pill for about four weeks and have been having mild to moderate cramps as if my period is coming and my ovaries hurt once in a while. Also, my boobs got a little smaller, my nipples are pretty sensitive and I’ve had quite a but of discharge. I also had mood swings during the first two weeks but otherwise I’ve been feeling okay. I haven’t had a period yet but I’m anticipating it any day now although I know it will likely take a few months for my cycle to regulate and for my period to come back. Best of luck girl! I wish I never started taking it. Not ovulating or having a period for 12 years is insane.

@MGabr I know!! It’s wild, I know people say it doesn’t cause infertility but I can’t help but think it can’t be good for you surely??

@augustC19 there's nothing unsafe about being on birth control long-term. In fact birth control decreases your risk of ovarian, endometrial and colon cancers.

@augustc19 it’s definitely not natural and doesn’t belong in our bodies

@MGabr something not being natural doesn’t mean it is unsafe or harmful. Most food and drinks nowadays are processed and will likely cause much more harm than birth control ever will.
