So about 7 years ago I had severe acne and went on the combined pill wich cleared it up, I had migraines so was told I could only take the mini pill but my skin still stayed clear up until I’ve stopped taking it last month and I am having the worst acne wich is making me feel really depressed and self conscious, I went back on the mini pill but now all I’m reading is that it doesn’t help acne and makes it worse. I’m stressing because I can’t go on the combined pill 😭 but cannot live with this acne my skin was completely clear before it so depressed

Going off the pill can throw things off while your body adjusts, but its usually worst during this initial adjustment phase. Just to clarify you were on the mini pill and your skin was fine and then you stopped taking the mini pill and broke out and you've just gone back on it? The acne will definitely be due to your body adjusting to going on and off. It will likely calm down after a few months.

@aurielle yes I was on the combined pill which cleared it up 7 years ago, have since been on the patch, implant and desogestrel wich it stayed cleared until coming off the desogestrel for a month so I’ve got back on it but I’m seeing that the mini pill doesn’t help acne and only makes it worse so I’m worried it isn’t going to get better .

@Pippinpom that's not true, it can help with acne it just depends on the person. Clearly while you were on the patch, implant and desogestrel which are all estrogen-free your skin stayed clear so it can work! It's most likely just stopping the pill that triggered the breakout.

Your hormones are alllll over the place right now. So you might just have to be patient and wait for your skin to heal and hormones to settle. I also was on the pill for 7/8 years and went on for acne in the first place, stopped taking the pill in May and since then my skin has been up and down. As @aurielle said above your skin has been good on at least 2 progesterone only methods (I think the patch is also a combined method? But maybe there’s progesterone only patches or something) so there’s no reason to assume your skin won’t be okay again. Just be patient and stick it out, I know how acne really knocks your confidence but you’ll get there x
