so im anxious rn. ive never wanted to use bc because im so afraid of serious side effects like blood cloths. but i have a long term relationship and ella ruined my hormones so doctor prescribed yasmin. it was inevitable lol. ive been using yasmin for 6 months and normally, my doctor advised me that if i didnt wanna use bc as a method of protection, i could stop taking after 6 months. honestly i dont wanna stop now because it caused literally no side effects and being protected eases my pregnancy anxiety for sure. but im still worry about blood cloths. im a young (21yo) healthy woman, non smoker (i used to rarely smoke but i quit) and im not overweight. but you maybe know, yasmin is not the safest pill just like yazz. so what should i do? should i at least change the brand? if so, any recommendations? or should i stop taking the pill and go back to condoms? or do i worry unnecessarily? help me please

Your doctor would not have prescribed you the combined pill if they thought you would be at risk of blood clots. If it would ease your worries change pill. I personally would recommend staying on the pill for ease of mind over pregnancy etc.

@bluerose9 im living in Turkey and birth control pills are not a common method in here. so doctors mostly do not have an adequate education about it (it's sad i know). in fact my doctor didnt even testing me our asking me about my family health history. so i cannot be fully trust doctors about that. it's a bit complicated :') but thank you so much

if you know yourself that there’s no blood clots in your family then you’re absolutely fine. if you’re worried you could switch to a mini pill through as they don’t contain oestrogen which can increase the risk of blood clots + high blood pressure

As long as your family doesn’t have a history of blood clots/strokes at a young age (under 40-50) and you get yearly checks of your blood pressure then there’s no need to worry. Have you had your blood pressure checking since going on it? The risk of blood clots is actually much higher in pregnancy than with BC.

It shouldn’t matter if your grandma has high blood pressure as she’s older, strokes run in my family but as they were over 50 the doctor said I was fine to be on the combined pill and I have been for 6+ years

I’m from Germany and I take the 28Mini which is a levonorgestrel only pill and pretty rare. But I think cerazette (desogestrel only) is the most common Mini pill world wide and you can also order it online without a prescription :)

It seems it is available in Turkey (I guess it’ll just depend how well it’s stocked in pharmacies) {-Ke4qF5O8}, but if you’re not experiencing any side effects on femodene and do not have any risk factors for blood clots then I don’t think it’s worth risking switching

@awg1 i havent experienced any side effects actually. what are the risks of switching? sorry i really dont know anything about mini pills

Well you don’t have breaks or placebos with a Mini pill, all pills are Active and Theres a Chance your period stops when you take them

@fuckyou00013 oh okay it's a bit different. what's the percentage of protection tho? is it the same or more or less?

@fuckyou00013 is the 28mini , aka Lyleq?

@valiumsaidto the Pearl Index is slightly higher than with the regular pill, because some Mini pills you have to take every day at the exact same time so Theres a higher chance of fvcking things up

You would risk experiencing side effects like breakthrough bleeding, acne, mood changes, nausea, changes in sex drive, bloating etc. It’s really not worth switching at all when you have no issues with your current one.

@Awg1 Actually the Mini pill is said to have less side effects than the combined pill😅 bit yeah spotting is pretty Common for mini pills

@fuckyou00013 Yes but OP isn’t experiencing any side effects on the combined pill they’re on, so there’s no point switching to something she may experience side effects with, that’s pointless.

@Awg1 Well she said she’s afraid of blood clots and since they’re only a side effect of the combined pill and not of the Mini pill she might Switch 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sep 28 22
07:24
@fuckyou00013 But she’s not at risk of blood clots and can get her blood pressure checked regularly to monitor risk, so weighing up the risk of that side effect vs the potential side effects of going on a new pill…it’s not worth switching.

@Awg1 i dont get why you think switching pills could cause side effects? Keep in mind she might (or might not) switch to a pill that is known for less side effects. Overall she should just talk with her doctor abt it

Sep 28 22
07:34
@fuckyou00013 Switching pills can always cause side effects, as the new pill may not work for that person🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s not necessarily true the mini pill has less potential for side effects, it isn’t as good for acne and breakthrough bleeding. Her doctor clearly thinks she’s safe on the combined pill and she has no side effects so again, there is no reason to switch.

No need to get that intense @Awg1 , it was just a Suggestion and as you might know, doctors often just describe a pill without really checking the risks. I have multiple friends that got their pill described without having a vaginal Test or blood test; they just walked in and left 5 minutes later with a prescription

@fuckyou00013 sorry it’s just frustrating to explain. You are the one who mentioned talking to her doctor, which is why I said that..he obviously thinks she’s fine. But anyway as I said in a comment above, as long as she is getting her BP checked and she has no other risk factors like family history then she’s good.
