i’m curious about the 6+ cups/trips of diarrhea rule and where it came from. where did you hear about it?

@aurielle thank you for linking something with actual info that mentions sources. honestly i made this post because i’m quite convinced the specific rule just got made up at some point and repeated enough times to seem like common knowledge. i think people need to be really careful about what medical advice they give out and where the info comes from

@jorts22 well the unfortunate thing is that some topics like diarrhea's impact on pill absorption have barely been clinically studied if at all. So rather than just say "we don't know 🤷🏽‍♀️" there's a general guideline that people can follow to try to be safe. It doesn't hurt to follow this as you'll be erring on the side of caution. I agree with you if it's medical advice that could cause someone to be at risk of pregnancy or cause harm but this "rule" just tries to give people some guidance when they ask questions

@aurielle right, i agree it doesn’t hurt to be extra careful. my worry is we don’t know if someone’s protection could be affected in less than 6 trips, and it could give a false sense of security

@jorts22 at the end of the day we try our best and it’s just advice. Most of us are not licensed medical professionals and even if someone claims to be it’s hard to prove that over an anonymous text forum. In the end it’s the responsibility of the user and if they aren’t sure it’s best to reach out to a professional directly or treat it as a missed pill and follow their instructions, but most people never actually read their pamphlet.
