Does Amoxicillin prescribed by your doctor decrease the effectiveness of your birth control when you take it? The brand I'm taking is Opill.

Yes! I just went to the dentist today and they put me on Amoxicillin and said even if I’m taking my birth control it’s not effective so she would recommend not to do any sexual activity until I’m off Amoxicillin

Nope. The only antibiotic proven to affect birth control is rifampin. I don’t know why they keep telling people that.

Wanted to add: the only way they’d affect it is if they cause vomiting or extreme diarrhea. That may be why they say that.

Doctors are also not very up to date when it comes to birth control, it would be beneficial to do your research before getting any type of medications.
