Copper coil advise please! I’ve been on the depo for so long and before that was on the pill that I just took continuously and I feel like I don’t even know who I am. I’ve been on hormone birth control from 15 to now nearly 25 and I feel like I literally need to be off of it but really really don’t want to get pregnant (or use condoms 😬😬) Or any other birth control advise if you have it. Thanks girlies

The hormonal IUDs have localised hormones so side effects are less than the pill or patch etc if that’s an option for you

I would not do copper simply because it is known to cause heavier and more painful periods. There’s really no reason why you have to go off hormones unless you start to have blood pressure issues or something as you get older. But you’re really not at the age for that yet. They usually start to monitor that around 35.

Why do you feel like you have to come off?

@Yi_eune I’ve just been on it for so long I wanna see what life is like without it and if it’s any different idk? I also kind of weirdly miss having a period.. I feel like I’m not a girl and can’t relate when girls talk about it

Definitely think the copper is a good option for you then. I would say stick to bc if you don’t wanna use condoms.

@Xoxoxaaa I see. I also think the copper coil might be worth a try. Do keep in mind it can take up to 12-16 months before your body is adjusted being of hormonal birth control.

I have had the copper coil since January this year. I was on the pill for 4 years prior to that, i just didnt like being on hormones i felt like i was angrier/moodier on the pill than i am now. The only thing is the coil did hurt a lot when it first got fitted i really underestimated the pain i would feel but it is different for everyone. I couldnt drive myself home afterwards but they recommend that you dont. My first few periods was painful and heavy but i hadnt had a period for years so i was expecting it to be somewhat uncomfortable. Then after about 5 months the period pains weren’t as bad and was manageable with pain relief and a hot water bottle. 10 months on , i like that u dont really have to think about it its there for 5 years and your body isnt on any hormones, my periods arent painful or heavy now at all it was the best thing i could have done for my body. When you have sex wait maybe 3/4 days bc of the risk of infection and also u just dont want to do it when u first get it, ur cervix will feel quite sensitive - i still have to ask my bf not to go as deep now as sometimes when he goes near where it is i get flashbacks of the pain i felt when i got it inserted. But overall i do recommend if you want to change from the pill im glad i did it
