I’m new to birth control and not entirely sure of everything. I just started the 21 pack, Im 2 weeks and 3 days into my first pack and getting closer to expecting my period which has always been irregular. My periods tend to be 4 days long and I was wondering if I’m supposed to start my new pack after those 4 days or am i waiting the full 7 days? If i’m waiting the full week am i still protected with sex if i’m not taking anything those 3 days after my period?

you no longer have a period on birth control as you don’t ovulate, what you experience on your break week is a withdrawal bleed that may or may not occur. it’s completely normal for it to not happen and it’s not a cause for concern as long as you’ve taken your pill correctly. bleeding can occur at at any point during the 7 days, it can even start on the 7th day. you shouldn’t extend your break past 7 days. you’re protected as long as you take your new pack on time. it is recommended to shorten / skip breaks as they are not medically necessary and it will help avoid error.
