Would you stay late at work if you didn’t get paid for it or get the time back? I am temporary and my contract hours are 7:30-3pm. I am always early by around 10/15 mins which I don’t mind. Some woman I work with (now she’s not my boss and I don’t report to her so of course taking it with a pinch of salt) said I may need to start staying back some nights for an hour or two. She does do this sometimes. However, she is full time, permanent and classed as faculty and can in theory come And go when she pleases. So say she is staying back late, she could come in later that day or leave early another day. I cannot do that. I think if I’m temporary and not getting paid or the time back why would I stay back? I’m not sure if I’d want to even keep working here if I was made permanent as I’ve not had a great time here so far.

@d1996 you’re not being unreasonable. You’re in work to be paid - doing unpaid hours is insane. And I am also the kind of person who turns up to work 5-15 mins early, and hasn’t been paid for those extra mins. I’ll be early sure but I’m not staying late.

Only work what you’re being paid for, especially as a temporary employee.

Absolutely not. If someone says you need to stay late, ask that your hours be adjusted so that you are starting an hour later.
