The only way to know if there is a better pill for you is to switch pills. There is no such thing as birth control that “helps” with appetite and if you happen to gain any weight its usually temporary.

@GigiLuxe there isn’t any pill directly related to weight gain, the only birthcontrol directly linked to weight gain is the depo-provera shot

Everyone reacts differently to different pills so it’s very much a matter of trial and error to see what works for you personally. It is pretty much impossible to find a pill that will give you a specific side effect that will change something for you, like changing your appetite in the way you want or increasing breast size. Those “positive” side effects are often temporary anyway. If you have little or no unwanted side effects on your current pill then in my opinion you’re best to just stick with it, as the chances of getting unwanted side effects on another pill are pretty likely.

Certain combined pills can be a little better for acne or hair loss but although it’s true the pill can increase appetite, I don’t think there’s a specific one that usually does for most people. Are there other reasons you want to switch?

I have been on Aurovela Fe 1/20 (Formally known as Junel Fe 1/20) for the past two years and absolutely love it!! You have a two hour time frame to take it and still be fully protected (example, i take my pill as 9:20pm but could take it as early as 8:20pm or as late as 10:20pm). I have not gained any weight (also a collegiate athlete) and have minimal cramping! I have 21 active pills and 7 sugar pills and always bleed for 3-4 days lightly on the 7 sugar pills. I rarely breakout. No noticeable mood swings and rarely sad. I love it! The first 3 months were rough while my body adapted (lightly bled for 21 days straight but could wear a light tampon and be fine). I feel like this brand isn’t talked about enough!! I’d recommend it to anyone

@skincare23 you have a 24 hour time frame to take that pill and remain protected.

False, my doctor warned me of this. With this specific pill she said anything over 12 hours is a “missed” pill meaning you do have to use another source of protection & 24 hours missed is a complete miss and must use protection for 7 days. Like any BC, the more on time you take it, the better off you are of being fully protected.

@skincare23 This info is taken from the first link that came up when I googled ‘Aurovela Fe 1/20 pamphlet’ and from a credible source - the NIH, the national Institutes of Health which is part of the US Department of health. Dosage and Administration for 28-Day Dosage Regimen To achieve maximum contraceptive effectiveness, Aurovela Fe 1/20 should be taken exactly as directed and at intervals not exceeding 24 hours. If the patient forgets to take one or more light yellow to yellow tablets, the following is suggested: One tablet is missed take tablet as soon as remembered take next tablet at the regular time Two consecutive tablets are missed (week 1 or week 2) take two tablets as soon as remembered take two tablets the next day use another birth control method for seven days following the missed tablets Two consecutive tablets are missed (week 3) Sunday-Start Regimen take one tablet daily until Sunday discard remaining tablets start new pack of tablets immediately (Sunday) use another birth control method for seven days following the missed tablets Day-1 Start Regimen discard remaining tablets start new pack of tablets that same day use another birth control method for seven days following the missed tablets Three (or more) consecutive tablets are missed Sunday-Start Regimen take one tablet daily until Sunday discard remaining tablets start new pack of tablets immediately (Sunday) use another birth control method for seven days following the missed tablets Day-1 Start Regimen discard remaining tablets start new pack of tablets that same day use another birth control method for seven days following the missed tablets. So according to this pamphlet you have a 24 hour time frame in which to take a pill and only need to use extra protection for 7 days if two or more consecutive pills are missed. One missed pill does not require extra protection to be used. I definitely would recommend following written instructions from a legitimate source over any doctor’s verbal instructions from memory.

Thanks for the information but being a collegiate athlete who is in a long term relationship, I’d rather do my very best to stay protected and so taking the pill at the exact same time every night works for me and works the BEST for my own body.

@skincare23 unfortunately your doctor is incorrect, but wanting to take your pill in a timely manner is definitely a good thing and how it's meant to be taken! Just pointing out that there is slightly more room for error as with most combined pills you have a 24 hour window and you can miss one but remain protected (but I'm not suggesting this is the ideal way to take the pill.)

@skincare23 that’s absolutely fine, ^ as said above ideally you are supposed to be taking the pill consistently on time! You do what’s best for you. I personally would use extra protection if I missed pill even knowing technically my protection was not affected. This is just good to be aware of if something does not go to plan and you are contemplating taking emergency contraception or something.

What @aurielle and @bluerose9 said. Unfortunately a lot of doctors give out outdated or inaccurate information on BC/women’s health, so it’s always good to double check it with reliable sources (eg. NIH, NHS, FSRH) before sharing with others! Of course it’s up to you what routine you prefer though, I always take mine before bed.
