How do I go about asking to go part time at work? Having no luck Job wise since moving country lol. Just started 3 weeks ago as a lab tech in a school. Lovely little school but the days are boringggggg. Work load is very minimal. My last job was like this and find myself feeling down and demoralised again already. I will still give it some time but doesn’t look likely to change. I wouldn’t mind doing 3 days a week, I know a few other roles that job share already and they have a lot of part time staff so I don’t see it being an issue (hopefully!). Money wise it’s fine, my husband thankfully earns a good salary and has no issue if I go part time. I was going to give it till the end of term (December) and ask. Not sure if this is an acceptable amount of time before I ask or how I would even ask lol

Can’t you ask for other tasks instead? It may make it more exciting for the time you are still there. Communication is important on the work floor! And then you can always cut down later along the line if the job still doesn’t satisfy you. You can just schedule a meeting with your supervisor to talk about more challenging work/cutting down and sort the process that way.

@yi_eune Had a meeting this week already which I highlighted the minimal workload and I think because it’s such a small school there’s honestly not much to do. Have weekly meetings with my line manager so will try again next week!
