Hello!! I’ve not been on here in forever lol. Just looking for some advice / experiences of getting the copper coil / it not working out. I recently made the decision to switch over to the copper coil after being on the pill for 4 years, just wanna give the no hormones a go. I had my appointment yesterday to get it but it unfortunately failed. Basically was told that my cervix wasn’t having it and they didn’t want to risk hurting anything so now I have to wait around 8 weeks for a referral to have the appointment done with a scan so that they can see where they’re going. Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience and if it was better second time around etc as I’ve been told that this is quite common. The whole appointment was generally quite uncomfortable. The doctor just inserted her fingers without a warning really and it was generally quite painful (I did stupidly forget to take a pain killer beforehand but I’ve had a pap smear and all before and it was nowhere near as painful or uncomfortable). The anaesthetic spray didn’t do so much but they said there will be a gel next time also. I’m thinking the fact that I was tense also had an impact? Sorry for this ramble😭

Oh no. Sorry you weren’t able to get it today. The best thing when getting an iud is to get some sort of pain management!! Because it is VERY painful idk how they have us out here doing it with a freaken ibuprofen 😤😤 trash honestly. Spray and gel lidocaine work. They also sometimes prescribe pills beforehand to relax your cervix that might help. I think it’s a muscle relaxer ask about that. Not cool that the nurse just jammed her finger in you like that 🙄🙄 but when I got mine they did an ultrasound on me to see how big my cervis was so they could see which size would be good and I got lidocaine spray that helped. My experience was good. You being tense could also be a factor
