So I am looking to get off of the pill. I have been on it for 7 years and unsure of how to stop. My husband and I will be trying for a baby in the future and just want to have this under my belt. Do I just stop after finishing a full pack or one day just stop taking completely? Also any tips for getting off of it, I’m scared of the side effects, would be greatly appreciated!!

It’s often recommended to talk to a doctor before going off birth control, especially as the can provide you with information about getting pregnant

@Emg1727 it’s good you talked to your doctor! Getting off birth control is a very different experience for every single person, but it can easily take up to 12 months for your body to adjust being fully off it. This might mean you have a regular cycle for a bit and then not have bleeding for months after. It’s best not to have any expectations but you could potentially have any side effect possible during that time. That can not be controlled nor prevent, it’s something you just have to do it and see what happens. Your body will need to have the time to adapt being off birth control again.

Hey! So I quit the pill like 7 months ago (without talking to a doctor, I don’t see why I should have lol) after having taking it for roughly 20 years (first 15 years Minidril and last 5 optimizette). I used to have horrible period pain and now it’s bearable (although every month gets a little worse, I’m touching wood it doesn’t get too bad), and I feel my ovulation now which I personally like. My bleeding got regular after only 2 months or so and I started to feel my ovulation recently (after 6 months). I don’t want to get pregnant but personally I had PTSD from period pain and now it’s like I’m rediscovering myself it’s been really nice. Of course everyone is different but that was my experience :).

@Luna91 it’s good to talk to your doctor so they are up to date on what medications you are or aren’t taking anymore. OP also said they would like to try for a baby and doctors can offer help for that too.
