Just out of pure curiosity.. If you’re using birth control strictly for contraception and not for anything period related, and your partner gets a vasectomy, would you stop taking your pill? Or would you stay on it because of the risk of the vasectomy reversing?

I believe semen samples need to be tested a few months after the procedure to ensure it’s actually worked. So it’s not immediately effective. I guess my decision would depend on what the results were and if the doctor was confident it worked.

@bluerose9 They do. A lot of doctors recommend a 6 week, 12 week, and 9 month checkup is what I THINK! is needed… And then yearly after that. But I know a lot of women who said they’d stop the pill after that and was curious.

At this moment in time I wouldn’t. My ring stops my periods completely and I’m benefitting that rn

Personally I’ve stayed on the pill while single/not sexually active for months/over a year at a time so I would most likely stay on it in this situation.

If my partner would get a vasectomy then I would probably go off the pill entirely or get an IUD. But that would be because when we wouldn't want any more kids. Tbh it's nice being able to sometimes skip periods and my natural periods were extremely painful.

If I were strictly using the pill for contraception and my partner and I were married/long-term committed then I'd go off it, I don't see why I would need it at that point and it would save me a great deal of time and hassle. But I currently use my pill to skip periods not just for contraception.

At this moment in time I wouldn’t, I really like the benefits I’m getting with my implant. Outside of a few days of breakthrough bleeding after one year of use it has stopped my bleeds completely (I’m now 2,5 years in so due a new one soon). My natural periods have always been very painful and even though it might have changed now I’m older, but I do not want to risk it as I much prefer not bleeding at all. I haven’t experienced many side effects either so it’s been a really good method for me!

I think the question was if you're only using bc for contraception and not anything related to regulation periods

I like the benefits of not getting my period because thats always been something that was extremely painful and just annoying, so I probably would stay on it for that benefit.

If my partner ever gets a vasectomy I’ll get my IUD removed (or just not get a new one when it’s time for this one to come out)

If I was using it only for contraception and not period-related, I would.
