Quick opinion question - so me and my partner live together and our lease is up in March of next year. He’s going to be stationed somewhere in the military starting some time between May and August. We initially discussed potentially doing a month to month lease until he leaves (though it costs 1.5x the regular rent), but now I’m starting to reconsider. It may make it a lot harder to go from sleeping in bed with him every night to suddenly me moving into my parents and not seeing him for months on end. He has the option to go stay with his parents until he leaves (about an hours drive from mine) and I was thinking this might be the best option to kind of ease us into being away from each other. Has anyone been in a situation like this/think one would be better than the other?

I would personally probably want to spend as much time with each other as we can before he leaves. I think the separation will be hard either way although I get what you're saying about easing into it- my guess is you guys will end up driving back and forth a lot to make the most if your last bit of time together. Since this is happening next year, do you have to decide now?

@auRielle That has definitely been my mindset for a long time and part of me absolutely wants to spend at much time as possible with him. It’s just challenging weighing the pros and cons of each decision. We don’t have to decide now, but I want us to make a decision long before we get sent the lease renewal offer to best help us prepare and for there to be no surprises/last minute decisions (that’ll be around December-Jan).
