Hi I just wanted to see if anyone has any knowledge or thoughts on the copper coil? I’ve been on the combination pill for over two years now and the hormones just don’t agree with me my periods have gotten so bad aswell as my mental health that it’s interfering with my life. I have had many gp appointments to speak about it but my gp just keeps telling me not to come off the pill and that’s it’s my best option they had done tests that just come back clear so no further treatments or anything happens. I have been looking into the copper coil as it is a non hormonal method and I would still like to stay protected against pregnancy, but am hesitant as I’ve heard lots of negative opinions on it I’m aware everyone can react differently but I’m also put off as my gp has never recommended it they just keep telling me to stay on the pill but I’m wondering could it be because I’m still young? Idk I’m on the fence but I just don’t think staying on the pill is the right choice for me now as it’s done way more harm than good. I have been wanting to contact my gp about it for sometime although how they react to this stuff puts me off because they just tell me this is just what the pill is like and these side effects are apart of it and just tell me to stay on it and say no to anything I suggest

I don't have any personal experience but I'll just add that people who haven't liked combined hormonal methods sometimes react better even to a hormonal IUD because the amount of hormones is very small and more localized in one part of your body. They're also smaller than the copper IUD and usually associated with less heavy bleeding. I'd definitely try to find a new GP or see a gynecologist because it's really unfair that they're dismissing your concerns and not offering you any options because there are many different options for birth control.

Thanks I hadn’t considered the hormonal iud but I’ll have to look into that, I have been on a waiting list for months to see the gyne but still nothing sadly but yes I have been trying to switch gp as my current one does not listen to me she just dismisses it and says this is what the pill is like
