I've been considering transitioning away from oral hormonal birth control and opting for condoms along with fertility tracking rings instead. My main interest is in tracking ovulation days rather than focusing on sleep and fitness, especially since I already use an Apple Watch. However, I'm finding the Oura ring to be too costly with its subscription fees. I'm looking for suggestions on affordable alternatives or advice on whether it would be better to continue with hormonal birth control.

I would not recommend ovulation/fertility tracking unless you’re okay with eventually conceiving. If you want to be covered you can look for a semi-permanent method or use barriers. It won’t be reliable right after quitting either as it takes 9-12 months to adjust being off birth control and anything can happen during that time.

^ I also would not recommend natural planning/tracking methods unless you are 100% okay with unintentionally falling pregnant. If you go down the basal temperature tracking route, several things like being ill, traveling, working shift hours or sleeping irregular hours can affect it/make it ineffective so it may not work for your lifestyle. As also said above, it can take several months or even up to a year for your body to fully adjust off the pill and for your cycle to fully recover. It can also take several months of cycle tracking for it to actually accurately predict your cycle. Basically it will take several months and potentially well over a year for cycle tracking to actually work for you.
