Just a tiny rant because I've been spending the holidays with my partner's extended family/family friends and when we meet everyone asks where we live, how he likes it and what he does for work but barely asks me or it's like an afterthought. But they don't seem to realize that the whole reason we moved across the country is because I got my PhD and got a great-paying job at an Ivy League university. My partner took a pay cut and a job he was overqualified for so that I could puruse my dream job but people can't conceptualize that a man would prioritize his female partner's career in that way 🙃

It’s frustrating that they don’t recognize your achievement and the sacrifices you both made. On the other hand, how blessed it is to have a partner who is happy to prioritize and celebrate you and your career.

@flyaway4me thank you, I appreciate that. It's easy to get caught up in the game of status and appearances in South Asian extended families where I'm surrounded by doctors and Harvard law students. But all that really matters is that my partner and I are doing what works for us and that we see and understand each other.
