hi guys. i’ve been using Zentiva Desogestrel for 4 weeks now after switching from Cerelle. On cerelle i experienced a lot of brown blood however barely any period, and since switching to desogestrel i’ve had nothing for 3 weeks until the 23rd of June. Til today, I am still bleeding from the 23rd. The first few days I marked as spotting as it was brown and very slight, however the past 10 days my blood has been red as if though a period, and heavier than the brown blood that was before. I know that this is due to my body getting used to it however I am going on holiday on the 20th of this month with my boyfriend and I really want to not be on my period. Does anyone know how long this period could last? It’s a lot lighter today than it has been

All desogestrel mini pills are essentially the same, they all have the same amount of desogestrel active ingredient. So you haven’t really switched pill, just pill brand. Unfortunately irregular bleeding is a particularly common side effect of the mini pill. There’s no way to predict how long it will last or when it will stop

I’m on cerelle and I was okay to begin with and then bleed for 2 months. My doctor adviced me to take two of the pills at your normal pill time for a week and it helps stop the bleeding. It doesn’t work for everyone but it’s worth contacting your gp and questioning it maybe as I’ve not had any issues with irregular bleeding since and have been on it a year now.
