I really wanna have an iud. But I’m wanna know opinions of the copper iud and regular iud. What is the difference and what’s best. I got off bc pills for a month and felt like myself again after so long without realizing I’ve been feeling like this. And I wanna know which one is best to not really have those states again from being on the pills.

The copper IUD does not contain any hormones. Hormonal IUDs (like Mirena, Kyleena, etc) release a small amount of progesterone hormone. Pills also contain hormones. One downside of the copper IUD is that for many people it causes heavier bleeding.

The copper iud can potentially make your period and cramps heavier/more painful, hormonal iuds can make your period stop altogether, but can also make your cramps more painful as you’re adjusting with the hormonal iud you can bleed very irregularly for the first few months (3-6) with the copper iud your period will come on your regular cycle but might also be a bit longer along with heavier lots of people get both iuds taken out before adjusting because they bleed a lot for a long time but don’t let that deter you from wanting one, both are going to hurt during the insertion BUT definitely talk to your doctor about possible pain management aside from just Tylenol or Advil, advocate for pain management and if the first doctor tells you it won’t hurt and to just take Tylenol or Advil, find another one who will

^ agreed on talking to your doctor about pain management. i myself haven’t had an iud before, but i’ve heard lots of stories of people’s doctors ignoring how painful the insertion can be. whichever you choose, make sure you advocate for yourself if you need to
