I'm experiencing hair loss and hair greasiness from my BC. Does anyone have advice or know when it will stop? I'm on my 3rd pack (3rd month).

Because you have only been on the pill for three months your body may still be adjusting to it. I would wait it out for a few more months. If it continues to happen you could try speaking to a doctor. Hopefully it gets better!

What pill are you on? Hair loss isn't a very common side effect of birth control and only some pills containing certain hormones cause it.

@aurielle I'm on the combined pill, Daylette.

@bookgirlie the progestin hormone in Daylette is Drospirenone which is the least androgenic progestin meaning it shouldn't cause hair loss. I would look into other factors that could be causing hair loss like vitamin deficiencies or hair products.

@aurielle Before Daylette, I never noticed my hair falling out, even when in the shower I'd say 20 strands would shed and that's it. I change shampoos all of the time, I even tried to use the ones I used before Daylette, but no change. I did blood work recently, my vitamins are all great. I'm stressed, but I have been stressed all my life due to depression, anxiety, paranoia and bpd, and my hair wasn't falling out before so I'd say stress isn't it. My diet is amazing, I don't eat any kinds of fast food, sugar (only fruit), drink only water and lemonade with no sugar, I eat whole healthy meals with meat, vegetables, lean protein, fish, eggs and so on, along with fruit/nuts/salads/dried fruit etc. as snacks throughout the day. Everyday I drink 2+ litres of water, and every day I hit the 10k steps milestone. The only thing that changed since I started taking Daylette is that I wash my hair very often, since it gets greasy in 2 days. Before Daylette, my hair started being greasy every 6,7 days so I washed it once a week. I cannot start washing it weekly again due to the greasiness which Daylette is causing it. I've noticed my hair falling out and thinning along with it's constant greasiness a few weeks after I started taking Daylette and it's not getting any better. I haven't took any other medication since I started Daylette.

Hair loss typically takes a few months rather than a couple weeks to manifest so it would likely be caused by something that happened 3-4 months prior. If you’re concerned about it it’s a good idea to talk to a doctor! But just be mindful that it may very well be due to something else.

I assume when you got blood work done, it included iron levels & B12? Is your hair coming out in clumps or is it gradual & you’ve mostly just noticed through pics? Is it also diffuse thinning especially at your part/crown or is it specific patches? Is your scalp healthy & not irritated? Have you tried using Nizoral shampoo?

@Awg1 My bloodwork included everything that can be done, the nurse took 7 bottles, so it probably was. I can't remember exactly it's been a few weeks, but I remember everything was excellent. Only my vitamin D was for 2 less than it's supposed to be but the doctor said that that's barely noticeable and that that's healthy, but I also wear SPF throughout the winter, autumn, spring and summer everyday without break and I reapply, so I don't get any vitamin D through the sun rays, so that's probably why. I don't notice my hair falling out throughout the day at all, maybe a few more hairs on my pillow in the morning than usual. I only noticed it falls out a lot more when I wash it, and my family and friends noticed there's much less of it and that when I have a ponytail you can almost see a bit of my scalp. My hair is thin, but I have a lot of it, so it looks really thick. A few years ago I even considered doing an undershave so there's not so much of it. Now tho, there's much less hairs and it's twice as fair than it was before. I also notices that when I wash it, go with my fingers through my scalp there's so little of it. Before it was so thick it was heavy on my hand when I went through it, and now it's light as a feather. Hair on my scalp in ponytails also looks different, it's so much less than before. This isn't noticeable to someone who doesn't know me at all, my hair looks normal, but if you know me you'd see something's wrong as my family and friends told me, because it was so much thicker before and I'm scared I'll become bald at some point. My hairdresser and I also noticed that there's way less hair on the right side of my head than on the left. It's not noticeable at all with a naked eye, but when you hold both sides of my hair the left side is much heavier and there's more of it. When I run my hands through my hair at the scalp I also feel like I can almost feel my scalp, but before it was so thick I couldn't even reach my scalp. I'm just so worried, my hair was one of my best features on myself. I've been dying it every tw months for a year or more now, but a year ago it wasn't falling out. I also bleached it only once in my life 5 years ago, but that grew out a long time ago. This weekend I have an appointment where I'll be dying it the closest colour to my natural one, and then I'll stop the dying for good and leave it to heal and grow, if that's the issue. Although I haven't been bleaching it at all, I box dyed it red for a year, and than the last 2 or 3 months I've box dyed it into blue black. I didn't notice any thinning at my part nor anywhere else specifically, besides the right side of my head but that's not noticeable, only if you run your hands through my hair. I haven't tried Nizoral shampoo. My scalp is very healthy I'd say. I only used to have a bit of dandruff, but my current shampoo gets rid of it, and my hairdresser says my hair is very dry and can't untangle when wet at all, so I recently implemented a conditioner, a leave in conditioner, a hair mask and an almond oil in my haircare. I apply these only on the end of my hair tho, so it's not why it's getting greasy. It started getting greasy way before I implemented these.

If it’s not coming out in clumps I’d be surprised its only been falling out for 3 months and it’s noticeable by those that know you already. If you don’t have lots of really short hairs and your hair looks healthy then it’ll be hair loss rather than damage to your hair causing it, although with it being at the sides mainly could it be caused by tension if you have your hair up in tight styles a lot? I assume it’s only greasier as there’s less hair for the oil to go. As it’s not mostly at your crown or part then it’s less likely to be androgenic alopecia which is good. At a guess I would say it’s telogen effluvium which usually gets better on its own after 3-6 months and can be caused by stress or hormonal changes, but try to get your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist. Hair loss really sucks I hope you’re able to get answers & fix it. I’ve been going through it for a year now, it’s much more common in women than you’d think x
